5 Ideas for Short Trips Outside of Warsaw

Do you want to see something more than big city during your stay in Poland? Do you want to get out of your apartment for weekend and enjoy beautiful nature and historic sites? Wonderful! Check out these 5 places outside of Warsaw which are easily accessible and offer something unique.

    1. Kazimierz Dolny

      In just about 2,5 hours bus ride you can get to one of Poland’s official national Historic Monuments. Kazimierz Dolny is a considerable as one of the most beautifully situated little towns in Poland. It enjoyed its greatest prosperity in the 16th and the first half of the 17th century and enabled the town to preserve its Renaissance appearance. Since the 19th century it has become a popular holiday destination, attracting artists and summer residents. Many painters retreat to this small town to paint and sell their work. Galleries can be found in almost every street, offering for sale sculptures, stained-glass, folk art, and fine art.

    2. Żelazowa Wola

      Located 54 kilometers from Warsaw, Żelazowa Wola with its population of 65, is visited in great numbers by tourists and music lovers from Poland and abroad. The village is the birthplace of Polish pianist and composer Frederic Chopin. The main attraction is the Frederic Chopin Birthplace house, park and museum and Chopin recitals held on Saturdays in July and August featuring talented young Polish pianists.

    3. Kampinos National Park

      Kampinos Forest is a large forest complex located in the west of Warsaw. It covers a part of the ancient valley of the Vistula basin and is a combination of sandy dunes and marshes, with dense pine and spruce forest. The symbol of the Park are elks, which can be seen in the evenings when they walk around the grassland looking for food.

    4. Museum of the Mazovian Countryside in Sierpc

      This option is for the ones who want to experience real travel into the past, discover life and indigenous history and ceremonial of the Mazovian village from the breakthrough of the 19th and 20th centuries. In this museum you will find out how people lived, looked and enjoyed the nature and beautiful surroundings two centuries ago. To reach to Sierpc from Warsaw it takes only 2,5 hours by bus.

    5. Modlin Fortress

      The lovers of abandoned and military places will love this one! Modlin Fortress is one of the biggest 19th century fortresses in Poland, located in the town of Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki on the Narew river, about 50 kilometres from Warsaw. Visitors may access the Tatar Tower, which offers a beautiful view of the linking of the Vistula with the Narew, the 2 250-meter-long defensive barracks (which is the longest building in Europe), the neo-Gothic Water Tower from 1847, the North Gate, which is one of the oldest premises in the fortress and Napoleon’s Redoubt, probably designed by the emperor himself.
